Choconilla Ricotta Peda

Choconilla Ricotta Peda

Any Indian festival is incomplete without sweets. Our festival of colours “Holi” is no exception. We love “Peda” (Dry bite sized dessert), usually made of Mawa/ Khoya kheer with a range of flavors from Saffron (Kesar) to Elaichi (Cardamom). This Holi I gave our known “Peda” a twist with typically non Indian flavors of Chocolate and Vanilla. This is a very easy and tasty sweet dish/ sweet treat made out of Ricotta Cheese instead of the traditional Indian ingredients.

I created this sweet dish as an entry for a contest on Instagram. The outcome was really good, so I decided to share it here as well. Please try this recipe on “Holi” or anytime you want to indulge yourself with an uncommon bite sized dessert. Let me know how you like it! If you are inspired to make some, please share the photos at #flavorsnplaces (my Tag) on Instagram.

Ingredients:

  • Ricotta Cheese- 425gm/ (15oz)
  • Condensed milk-1/3 cup/ (80-90ml)
  • Vanilla essence- 1 tsp
  • Hershey’s Cocoa powder- 2 tsp
  • Walnuts- 6 to 8 halves (chopped)

With these quantities, you can expect to make around 12-15 Pedas

Cooking Method:

  1. Heat up the Ricotta cheese in a non-stick cooking pan, stir for 8-10 minutes, add condensed milk, vanilla essence and stir continuously till it becomes thick & sticky like a dough.
  2. Remove the pan from heat and pour the vanilla flavored dough in a bowl.
  3. Scoop out 2 tablespoon of vanilla dough in a separate bowl and add Cocoa powder. Mix well to make it a dark chocolate colored dough.
  4. Now let both the doughs cool down to room temperature.
  5. Take little portions of both colour doughs and roll them into one bite size Peda ball & garnish with chopped walnuts on the top.
